PRE ALGEBRA - EXPONENTS

HOW TO READ SOLVE EXPONENTS IN ALGEBRA PROBLEMS

FYI:

When not in brackets, as -5² means -(5 x 5) = -25, because negative x positive equals negative

If it was in brackets (-5)² for negative exponents in brackets, means (-5) x (-5), equals 25 because negative x negative equals positive

EXPONENTS - PRACTICE SOLVING PROBLEMS

5³ =

6² =

(-4)³ =

(-5)² =

ANSWERS

FYI: Negative x Negative = Positive and,
Positive x Negative = Negative

5³ = to solve multiply 5 as 5 x 5 x 5 equals 125

6² = to solve multiply 6 as 6 x 6 equals 36

(-4)³ to solve multiply (-4) as (-4)x (-4) x (-4) equals -64

(-5)² to solve multiply (-5) x (-5) equals 25

And, When solving exponents with negative integers solve as:
(-4)² for negative exponents in brackets, is (-4) x (-4), equals 16, as negative sign x negative = positive, whereas
-4² when not in brackets, is -(4 x 4), equals -16, as negative sign x positive equals negative.
